I see that you are also running AdSense. In the past half a year, how has your experience with ProjectWonderful worked? How does it compare to AdSense? Care to write a followup post?

We haven't had a chance yet to talk it out with Joel and his crew. I doubt the WoW one will gain enough support considering EA is still running strong though. We will have to see how it goes, and how our discussions go.

Its been about 2 months of brainstorming, and we are focusing primarily on the current EA to bolster traffic, either way, the site won't go anywhere, regardless of who runs it :)

Have you decided what you're going to do about this? There's already a proposal on Area51 for a WoW StackExchange site...

The downside of having to learn a new programming language is small (and it's also an advantage). The huge benefit by joining a large existing effort is all the other devs you will have working for you, adding features and fixing bugs.

If you're interested and happen to be more at home with C#, I wrote <a href="http://ripper234.com/p/open-source-stackoverflow-clone-by-a-n00b-webdev/" rel="nofollow">a very basic "stack overflow" implementation in Asp.NET MVC</a>.

Really tough situation. In your situation, I'd sell out, see what happens with option 1, and invest your time in epicplan instead.

It isn't not viable... We have a good amount of time to design and code it... My biggest issue at the moment is Shapado is ruby, OSQA is python, I'm not very good at either language right now, so I guess it comes down to which language I want to learn.

I'm sorry you only have 3 months to live as an SE1.0, please be sure to keep us informed on your decision too.

I don't understand why or how option # 3 is viable at all. Both the Shapado & OSQA platforms intend to support plugins and extensions. I believe you can find a home in one of them (which one to choose - that's the million dollar question right now).

If I were you, I would stay with Stack Exchange as long as I'm allowed to, or as long as the open source alternative don't offer something compellingly better. Then, I'd switch. Unfortunately, <a href="http://draw3cards.com/" rel="nofollow">Draw3Cards</a> has only three months to live under the Stack Exchange mantle, so we need to decide fast.

@Euripides - Now nothing here is concrete yet, but what if EpicAdvice started a blogging network, ate the cost of the servers, giving away free blogs to quality bloggers. We have the capacity to run dedicated installs of whatever platform people want to use on our servers (including wordpress), so this is an option we are exploring.

The catch for us would be that the blogs would be asked to use the badge widget to support our platform.

Is that too far out on a limb or would bloggers such as yourself embrace a free service like that?
